Owen Mc Cree

Owen Mc Cree is a recognised and promoted thought leader in the people and leadership, business consulting and safety management fields. As Managing Director of The Compliance Group, Owen partners with clients to create fit for purpose solutions and interventions that are practical and sustainable.

Owen has presented at major safety conferences, and other corporate events. He has done exclusive radio interviews for large projects such as the Gamsberg Mine in Aggeneys for Namakwa FM, he has been published in National Safety Magazine as well as the newsletter of the International Hogan Lovells Legal firm.

Owen is a dynamic business orientated person, with a skill set and ability that has influenced a vast number of people and have changed the way clients see their businesses forever.

Having started his career in the mining industry, he covered key business portfolios such as Mineral Resource Management and Mine Planing & Design, Production and Efficient Ore Extraction as well as the Safety & Sustainability functions. This, coupled to his qualifications and experience in business development and optimization from Wits Business School, has seen Owen travelling nationally and internationally to consult on business process optimization, leadership coaching and occupational health & safety management systems. His latest, appointed as Consulting COO for the international mining firm, Sitona Mining Consultants

Owen is a chartered member of the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH). He continues to add value to the mining industry in his capacity as President of the Association for Mine Safety professionals of South Africa (AMSPSA). Owen is an international speaker, life and business coach and has been coaching for approximately 3 years. In order to take this service professionally, he is currently registered with the Coaches and Mentors Association of South Africa (COMENSA) as a student member. This coaching aspect is unique to the culture programs presented by Owen, especially the Safety Culture Turnaround program, as he believes that in order to change a culture, you need to speak to the hearts and minds of people, not just the eyes and brains.

Owen has benchmarked OH&S at DuPont in the US and was invited to be a speaker at the 3rd Global Health & Safety Conference in Mining where he was rated 2nd among the international speakers across the 3 day event. He was also a speaker at the Corporate Governance in OH&S conference in 2016 and has spoken at the annual SAIOSH conference in 2018 and 2019 (by popular demand) where he was awarded best presentation and traveled South Africa on a national tour with the specific topic. He will be speaking at the 2020 conference once again.
